Creation Wants a Reply
We can now make a stronger claim.
The world is not only created by Divine speech.
The world is created capable of response.
This may be one of the deepest purposes of Malchus.
If Hashem wanted only passive emanation, no autonomous consciousness would be necessary. Angels could receive endlessly.
But human beings inhabit concealment.
We can say no.
Therefore yes matters.
We can forget.
Therefore remembrance matters.
We can experience ourselves as independent.
Therefore surrender can become real.
We can remain silent.
Therefore prayer matters.
We can use matter selfishly.
Therefore mitzvah matters.
Creation contains the possibility of answer.
And that answer rises from the lowest place.
The Infinite says:
“Let there be.”
Eventually the world says:
“Amen.”
That “Amen” is Malchus.
The Chavah Kadmonah treatment of Hod calls this the answering song, the feminine Amen that receives a blessing and returns it as praise. This is one of the framework’s most beautiful internal images: revelation does not complete itself when spoken; something remains unfinished until it is answered.
Every brachah understands this.
One person blesses.
Another says:
Amen.
The Amen does not compete with the blessing.
It seals it.
The receiver contributes something the original speaker could not provide alone:
response.
