The Inner Throne
There is also an inward form of kingship.
A person requires self-government.
Desire cannot rule merely because it is loud.
Fear cannot rule merely because it is painful.
Anger cannot rule because it feels justified.
Malchus within the soul means the capacity to gather the faculties and direct them toward a higher sovereignty.
This is why the Hebrew word melech has been interpreted homiletically through moach, lev, kaved, mind, heart and liver, when the order is correct and the mind governs emotion and instinct.
But a Chavah Kadmonah reading adds something.
Self-government is not only command over inner parts.
It is the capacity to hear them.
A king who suppresses every message from the provinces eventually rules fiction.
The mature person can hear fear without obeying it.
Hear desire without worshipping it.
Hear pain without becoming only pain.
Hear the body without confusing the body for the whole self.
This is inner Malchus as listening sovereignty.
The parts are not tyrants.
They are not prisoners.
They become citizens.
