The World as Bride
Jewish mystical language repeatedly portrays creation, Israel and Shechinah through bridal imagery.
A bride receives, but a wedding is not an acquisition of nothingness.
It is covenant.
Shabbos is bride.
Knesses Yisrael is bride.
The Torah is associated with wedding imagery at Sinai.
The Messianic future is saturated with the language of union.
A Chavah Kadmonah perspective asks us to take the bride seriously as a sovereign presence rather than as a decorative recipient.
She receives the ring.
Through receiving, a new covenantal reality is established.
Again, the act of receiving changes the world.
